Wet and dry vacuum cleaner, an unlikely home hero

Have you dropped something on your carpets that really shouldn't be there? A glass of wine or a sticky bbq rib from your barbecue, or perhaps the kids have had an arts and crafts mishap.

Fear not, we have some ways to save the day without costing an arm and a leg. You can use our spot cleaner, or make your own but first try this.

If you have a workshop vacuum also known as a wet and dry vac, you can use the following steps.

1. Ensure your wet-dry shop vacuum is empty and has no collection bag or dry filter. Some models have a wet filter specifically for water extraction.

2. Once plugged in and set, grab a spray bottle with water (start with water before adding any chemicals if the stain is fresh there is a chance of removing the majority before messing about with the PH of the carpet.

3. Begin by dabbing the nozzle of the vacuum onto the area sucking up as much of the material as possible. Don't rub or scrub! It's possible to break the fibres and leave an obvious mark behind. (We will have a video for this soon)

4. Spray the area topically with the water bottle and then extract again using the same technique. If required repeat, but be mindful not to soak the carpet. This rinses the carpet and removes most residue. If this hasn't done the trick, head over to our DIY stain treatment guide or give us a call and we can come help out.
